Stage 4

From Weimar to Eberstedt

Attention! Closure of the cycle path on the Carolinen-Promenade in the direction of Tiefurt. A diversion is signposted.

The fire brigade had to close part of the Ilm Valley cycle path on the Carolinen Promenade. Specifically, the area between the six-arch bridge (viaduct) and the Tiefurt sewage treatment plant is affected. The closure was initiated due to several large willows that had been uprooted. These willows were severely damaged by the activities of one or more beavers, which ultimately caused them to break over and fall onto the cycle path.

In the area of the current closure on the Carolinen Promenade, even after the initial clearance of the fallen willows, road safety is still not guaranteed for the remaining gnawed willows. It can also be assumed that the beavers will cause further damage to trees. As the beaver is a strictly protected species, intensive consultations are currently being held with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority on how to proceed. The closure of the cycle path in the section from Viadukt/ Spielpunkt to the Tiefurt sewage treatment plant must be maintained until the necessary traffic safety measures have been implemented.

Possible detours via Eduard-Rosenthal-Straße or Tiefurter Allee have been signposted.

On the 4th stage, the path takes you to the muses of Weimar's court society. Little beautiful chateaus with extensive parks tell stories from the time of Duchess Anna Amalia and Grand Duchess Maria Pavlovna. Via the Tiefurter Park you will reach the Wielandgut in Ossmannstedt, which is named after the first writer of Germany, Christoph Martin Wieland. There he was found his inner peace and inspiration. In Niederroßla you can solve the mystery of the "Elefantenkitzler" and the highest keep in Germany. At the end of the stage you will reach the historic oil mill in Eberstedt with its floating cabins for accomodation, a small animal area, a biergarten and restaurant and an original water wheel. For families, this is the place to be.
By the way!
Those who are interested in arts, take a detour from Niederroßla to the "bell city" of Apolda. This adorable township is known for its historic bell foundry and modern knitwear. Bells from Apolda are hanging in the most famous bell towers all over the world, such as the famous Peter´s bell in the Cologne Cathedral and as well as a chimes in the Palacio Legislativo of Buenos Aires. In the art gallery Apolda Avantgarde you can watch changing exhibitions by renowned artists. And back to the Ilmtal-Radweg, a side route leads you from Apolda to Eberstedt.
