The fire brigade had to close part of the Ilm Valley cycle path on the Carolinen Promenade. Specifically, the area between the six-arch bridge (viaduct) and the Tiefurt sewage treatment plant is affected. The closure was initiated due to several large willows that had been uprooted. These willows were severely damaged by the activities of one or more beavers, which ultimately caused them to break over and fall onto the cycle path.

In the area of the current closure on the Carolinen Promenade, even after the initial clearance of the fallen willows, road safety is still not guaranteed for the remaining gnawed willows. It can also be assumed that the beavers will cause further damage to trees. As the beaver is a strictly protected species, intensive consultations are currently being held with the Lower Nature Conservation Authority on how to proceed. The closure of the cycle path in the section from Viadukt/ Spielpunkt to the Tiefurt sewage treatment plant must be maintained until the necessary traffic safety measures have been implemented.

Possible detours via Eduard-Rosenthal-Straße or Tiefurter Allee have been signposted.
